Brown Box Organics does not support GMO (Genetically Modified Organisms) and we make every effort to buy only GMO free food. That is a major reason why we carry only Certified Organic produce and organic is part of our name. Part of the meaning of organic has always been GMO free and we hope it keeps that value. Still, we are constantly asked if we carry GMO free food. It’s a great question and we are so happy that this has become a major concern for so many consumers.
We wanted to share an expert from a recent USDA article that answers this question and might help you understand why Brown Box Organics is certified as an organic handler. Organic 101: Can GMOs Be Used in Organic Products?

“The use of genetic engineering, or genetically modified organisms (GMOs), is prohibited in organic products. This means an organic farmer can’t plant GMO seeds, an organic cow can’t eat GMO alfalfa or corn, and an organic soup producer can’t use any GMO ingredients. To meet the USDA organic regulations, farmers and processors must show they aren’t using GMOs and that they are protecting their products from contact with prohibited substances, such as GMOs, from farm to table.”
