Ginger Basics – 3 Ways

If you have some extra ginger root here are three great ways to use it up.

Steeped Ginger Tea

Bring a pot of water to a boil and then add 1/4 cup chopped ginger. Allow to steep for 10 minutes and remove the ginger. Add honey, lemon juice or other citrus juice if desired. Drink hot or iced.

Spicy Ginger Marinade

In a bowl with a tight fitting lid whisk together 1 tablespoon grated fresh ginger root, 2 tablespoons maple syrup, 2 tablespoons low-sodium soy sauce and 1/4 teaspoon crushed red peppers. Add raw chicken or pork. Cover with lid and gently shake. Set in the refrigerator and allow to marinade 2 or more hours. Grill or bake as desired

Ginger Lemonade

  • 2 cups water
  • 1 cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons minced ginger
  • 2 cups club soda
  • 1 cup lemon juice

Directions:

Bring water to a boil. Add honey and ginger and allow to steep for 10 minutes. Strain out and discard ginger and cool in the refrigerator. When the mixture is cool stir in soda and lemon juice. Serve over ice
